CALL FROM MARKUS HALUK FOR 15 YEARS OF KNPB

KNPB Sorong Raya Region, commemorates the XVth anniversary of the Central KNPB

Since its establishment on November 19, 2008, the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) has led a non-violent campaign for a referendum on the right to self-determination of West Papua, a territory forcibly annexed by Indonesia in the 1960s.

The organization has launched petitions and protests in different regions of West Papua. Its largest petition garnered 1.8 million signatures (out of a total population of 4.5 million). It was submitted to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in 2019.

Described as dissidents, dozens of  KNPB activists were killed and imprisoned by Indonesian security forces. This year, the KNPB celebrates its 15th anniversary. Markus Haluk, now secretary of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) and also one of the founders of the KNPB, gave the following speech:

Let's shout together, we must end this! Once again, we are determined to put an end to it!

In honor of the patriots who have left us, those of us who are still alive and those who will join you on the front lines, I wish the KNPB a happy 15th anniversary.

You were born in a critical moment, when Mother Papua was desperately crying for help. When colonialism, imperialism and militarism joined forces to occupy our land of Papua.

You were born when many of the country's children seemed helpless: we were crushed by the ruthless colonial fury. The womb of Mother Papua has been sucked dry by capitalist greed.

The colonial regime came with its democratic rhetoric to exploit and destroy it!

His lips are full of sweet words about development, welfare, special autonomy, democracy, human rights, justice and peace for Papua, but his heart is a cruel racist and fascist!

Its iron fist and its weapons are aimed at me to kill me, to suck the marrow from my body: gold, copper, oil, gas, uranium, platinum... Sixty years of occupation, that's what he needs !

It's time to end it!

Young patriots, you are 15 years old. You must stand firm and close ranks. Gird your loins with your patriotic fervor. Your motto is “We must end it”, yes, we really must end it. Indeed, you must end the suffering of your generation.

The motherland is proud of you. Keep going, keep going. Rest assured that the patriots who came before us make the heavens tremble. They pray to God, the ruler of Papua. It's time to end this.

Waaaa..waaaa..waaa... of the one who loves you,

Markus Haluk, ULMWP.
