Papuan freedom fighters are not western stooges!

Many, especially in Indonesia, assume that the West Papuan independence movement is sponsored by the West in order to destroy Indonesia.

This is a conspiracy theory of questionable sanity:

Since the granting of concessions from the Indonesian government to the multinational American Freeport in 1967, western countries have fully supported the occupation of West Papua by Indonesia. This actually makes it easier to drain West Papua's natural resources. Western powers are actually the ones who prolong the suffering of the Papuans! The same is true in several African countries where multinationals are more willing to pay corrupt political regimes than to cooperate with fair governments. The assassination of Patrice Lumumba, the first prime minister of the Belgian Congo in 1961 is a clear example of the dirty work done by western capitalist elites.

In the current context in Indonesia, ordinary people are deceived by the image of their leaders: portrayed as being humble and populist, when in fact they are corrupt and feudalistic. When their falseness is exposed, they do not hesitate to use a vicious hand to brush off their opponents. Under the Jokowi regime (2014-present), criminalization of the opposition and persecution of minorities have become the norm. Many human rights defenders and journalists have been imprisoned under vague articles of treason or hate speech. Indonesian officials love to accumulate wealth in disgusting ways. They are willing to curry favor with their superiors for the sake of power and wealth. Conversely, they do not hesitate to suppress subordinates or sacrifice ordinary people in order to secure their positions and interests.

In West Papua, the Indonesian authorities are fond of criminalizing Papuan freedom fighters as foreign stooges. In fact, the opposite is true. Just as an indonesian proverb says: a thief shouts thief! Fortunately, there is a growing awareness, especially among Indonesian intellectuals, that Indonesia is under tyranny. They understand that the cry "Free Papua" is not only a call to the indigenous Papuans to fight for their right to self-determination, but also a call to Indonesia to regain its dignity as a civilized nation. This has been squandered by corrupt politicians, religious thugs and greedy barons. Power to the people!
